The “Lürzer’s ARCHIVE International Student of the Year 2007” Award goes to an ad for furniture polish and cleaning agent “Pledge Multi-Surface” created by Joseph Cardamone and Stephanie Thompson of Syracuse University – College of Visual & Performing.

In this year’s “Student of the Year Award,” a total of 4,035 readers cast their votes, with 984 of them having opted in favour of the “Pledge Multi-Surface” ad. Second-ranked was Dnyanesh B. Gadge of the Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts in Mumbai, who picked up 483 votes for his Sony ad.

The art director of the Pledge ad, Joseph Cardamone, graduated in May of this year from Syracuse University – College of Visual & Performing Arts, where his father and two of his brothers studied before him. He has already garnered a number of distinctions, having been among the finalists at the One Show College Competition, and having won the Silver Award at the Local ADDY´s Competition.

Stephanie Thompson, who supported Joseph Cardamone in the role of copywriter, also studied at Syracuse University, where she graduated in advertising design. She, too was among the finalists at the One Show College Competition, and previously spent six months studying in Italy.

Issues 4/2006 to 3/2007 of Lürzer’s ARCHIVE carried a total of 36 ads produced by students throughout the world. These advertisements were chosen from submissions sent in by more than 100 universities. Over the past two months, our 150,000 readers had a chance to select the “Lürzer’s ARCHIVE International Student of the Year 2007.”

The award-winner will fly to Young Guns in Sydney, the advertising festival for young creatives, where 800 guests will be on hand at the gala to watch as Joseph receives the specially designed “Student of the Year Beer 2007” Sixpack along with the winner’s certificate.

The “Lürzer’s Archive International Student of the Year” Award was inaugurated in 2004. At the instigation of some of our readers – among them leading figures from inside the advertising industry – a prize was created for the best “up-and-coming advertising talent” and, with it, a contest offering students a platform on which to showcase their work.

“Lürzer’s ARCHIVE International Student of the Year 2005,” Menno Kluin, has since launched a successful career at Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, and was awarded a Golden Lion at the 2007 Cannes festival for his campaign for Glide dental floss.

Lürzer’s ARCHIVE is an international advertising review which, since its establishment in 1984, has been presenting readers with the pick of the latest crop of print and TV campaigns from around the world in each of its bimonthly issues. The magazine is distributed in more than 35 countries worldwide.
